Friday, May 21st 2010

A quick thanks to those who came out to The Venue Cafe in Waterbury earlier in the month.  We'd again like to thank Shake it Twice for booking the show and letting us get some free dollar Coors Lights.  Rok.

Last minute reminder for the Hungry Tiger tomorrow night.  With us will be our band friends Broken Glow.  We'll (probably) have copies of Fenntartott on hand with all your favorite new Black Velvet tunes!

The official title of our new album is Reserved.  Is it a play on words?  Is it a take on our favorite whiskey brand?  Is it safe and inoffensive?  Absolutely.

Final reminder for Sully's Pub in Hartford tonight!  As another last minute surprise, we'll have a Reserved preview demo available for FREE at the show.  It includes four tracks from the new album: Blackboard, Hard Times, Damaged Goods and Something of their Own.  They're definitely limited edition, so come get yours!

Short notice... show this Friday at Sully's Pub in Hartford. We'll be playing an hour long mostly original set nestled between Josh A (with members of High Plains Drifters) and Blue Cherry.  Come check out some of our new originals... new as in written during the last two years...

Current album recording level is: Orange

A quick thanks to the guys in Shake it Twice and everyone who came out to The Venue in Waterbury last weekend.  We had a great time playing darts, drinking $1 beers, and rocking out.  Two shows in a row debuting new covers... who do we think we are???

<-- Check the poster for the May Hungry Tiger show.  It'll be our ninth time at the Tiger (but who's counting.)  We were able to procure this rare Marilyn Monroe autograph for Don.  After letting us play so many times, it's the least we could do.

I think this is our Facebook page... ROK.

We've got some info on a few new shows coming up that'll take us into summer.  First, we'll be at The Venue Cafe in Waterbury in March.  Then we'll do our tour of Manchester in May and June.

Recording of the new album continues, and we're close to being halfway done.  Look for a possible release party in May where our CD doesn't show up on time.

A belated thanks to Drift for an awesome show at the Tiger a few weekends ago.  We had a tremendous time, and we thank everyone there for listening to us shake off the rust.

A second thanks goes out to everyone who came out Wednesday to the Main Pub in Manchester for the open mike night.  More rust fell off.

Free your mind and your ass will follow.

Ringing in the new year (and decade) with a new Small Glowing Pig release from labelmates Instigator.  Their self titled EP is available for download on the SGP site.

Also, only two short weeks until the return of Black Velvet at the Hungry Tiger.  Be there.

Reasons to come rock out at the Hungry Tiger on Friday, January 15th...

1. Black Velvet returns to the stage for the first time in six months and our first show at the Tiger in over a year!
2. Kick off the new decade with us two weeks late.
3. We're not alone... Drift will be bringing the rock as well.
4. WCCC plays our music really late at night on Sundays.
5. We've made a motivational poster to help convince you.

We had a ton of fun at the Mohegan Sun Summer Showdown last night.  First, thanks to everyone who came out to the show for some classic cars, great food, great music, and free fireworks.  We'd also like to congratulate Drift as they move to the second round.

Next up, we have the release of labelmates Meat Without Feet's debut EP.  Be sure to check out the rock and roll...

Due to last minute scheduling conflicts, we had to back out of the gig this Saturday.  Luckily, Broken Glow will pick up the reins and rock the house.  We met these guys at the Zen bar in May and have been trying to play with them since.  Looks like we'll have to keep waiting.  Those of us who can be, will be in attendance on Saturday, and you should too.  These guys are worth the measly admission price.

Remember, a boombox can change the world; but you gotta know your limits with a boombox.

We'll be at the Mohegan Sun battle of the bands on Wednesday, July 15th.  The show is on top of the parking garage and there'll be fireworks following the rock and roll.  Be sure to come out and help us move on to the second round!  Plus, they have gambling.

The Hungry Tiger show is currently hanging in the balance of Devo's work schedule.  If you are thinking of attending, make sure to check in here before you make the drive...

  Two pieces of news...

First, thanks to everyone who came out to the Lucky Dog in Worcester, MA on Wednesday night.  A big thanks goes out to coolkidcollective as well, who not only kicked ass, but player a Tool song with only an acoustic a djembe/snare and three vocalists.

Second, don't forget to come rock out with us at the South Street Stage tonight and at the Tiger on the 11th.  Rok!

Oh... I guess three things.  See side picture.

  Spring has sprung!

Thanks to everyone at Legends Rock Bar and The Zen Bar for having us for some great rock and roll on Thursday and Saturday respectively.  Our thanks also goes out to everyone who came out to hear some awesome local, original rock.

A long delayed thanks to those who came out to show some mid-week support at the All-Stars show on April 23rd.  We had a ton of fun, and the sound was great.

Tonight we'll be in Gales Ferry, CT.  If you know where that is or you have a map - come rock out!

We've finally gotten around to updating the pictures section of the not-as-new-as-it-used-to-be website.  Check in to see if you got caught at the City Alehouse two weeks ago...

And don't forget, we'll be at All-Stars in Manchester tonight, so be sure to swing by and partake in the musical entertainment!

A big thanks to everyone who came out to the City Alehouse a week ago to share in our rok.  We had a blast and it was great to get some of the acoustic originals from Music Butler out in a live setting.  Thanks to Turbulent for playing a kick ass set.  Our apologies to any of their fans who got the boot from Mrs. B.  She's an ID tyrant!

          Friday, April 10th, 2009

Make sure you come out to the City Alehouse in Danbury tonight for some live rock and roll.  We're planning our first acoustic set since Music Butler's release, so there's sure to be some live debuts.

As a side note, label mates Colortone have released their first EP.  Check out the rok.

Just a quick thank you to the crew running South Street Stage in Waterbury.  We had a great time on Sunday and we'll be glad to return in June to rock and roll some more.

Speaking of rock and roll, ours will be on WCCC 106.9 this coming week.  We'd like to thank The Rock for making us the homegrown band of the week.  Make sure you're listening at 10:45 Monday through Thursday.  There even should be an interview at some point...  Rok!

Quick thanks to everyone who came out to support us at the Webster Underground on Sunday.  It was definitely an experience.

Don't forget to stay tuned to our YouTube channel.  We're hoping to get some acoustic recordings up soon.  Also be on the lookout for some documentary style clips from the latest recordings.

Just a quick update to thank Austin for lending us his photography skills on Saturday.  We've got all new pictures in the band section.  It'll soon be overhauled with tabs; but, that's for another day...

Don't forget to come see us at the Webster Underground this Sunday for the battle of the bands.

          Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

The Black Velvet YouTube channel is now on the "air."  Our first video is a cover of Collective Soul's "Shine" from the Hungry Tiger show on January 2nd.

Enjoy!

Happy new year, and happy new album...

Music Butler has finally arrived!  Listen to the streaming player up above, or check out the music section to download a few of the tracks.

Our next gig is a battle of the bands at the Webster Underground on February 8th.  It is a Sunday, and it is $8 (if you buy in advance from us,) but we will be rocking and rolling some new originals and some of the cuts from The Butler.  Come support local music!

This hamster shares our dismay.

Looks like the album release may be delayed... We were thinking of re-titling it Chinese Democracy, but then we realized that joke doesn't make sense any more.  Maybe Detox?

Make sure to come out to the Tiger on Friday, as we'll still kick out the jams to the fullest.

Welcome to the new Black Velvet web site.  Different sections (such as pictures and archived news) will become available at some point.  Until then, make sure you check out the shows page for the latest on the CD release party for Music Butler.  Get your ass down to the Tiger and claim your free CD!  Nine tracks of home-cooked goodness... Mmmmm.
