Birthed out of a love of classic and 90s hard rock and a strong
desire to satiate bar-goers longing for loud guitars, Black Velvet
began to take shape in early 2006 when rhythm guitarist Angelo
Labella and drummer Mike Savignano finally decided to pursue a long
overdue collaborative project. Savignano soon called upon longtime
friends and jam partners Steve Blonski and Devin Jumper to fill out
the group with their low and high end mastery, respectively. After a
year of tightening their chops with former vocalist Vin Lazarro,
Black Velvet welcomed Jefim Piekarz on as the new sound and
personality of the band. Taking cues (and covers) from groups like
Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine, Led Zeppelin and
Sublime, Black Velvet has amassed a repertoire of rock and roll that
has stood the test of time and is truly aurally diverse. Originals
and covers of lesser known acts such as Earth to Andy and the
Bountiful Harvest complete the package and ensure that each show is
fresh and engaging. At a Black Velvet show, it wouldnt be unusual to
hear the Presidents of the United States of America's Peaches paired
with the Red Hot Chili Pepper's Aeroplane. It also wouldnt be
unusual to find yourself having a great time while rocking to some
of the best true rock and roll that a local band could offer.
